Glasgow Tourism Guide is an independent website about visiting Glasgow. It exists to answer the practical questions a first-time visitor actually has — whether the Subway is worth a day ticket, which of the city’s museums charge, whether to base yourself in the West End or Merchant City, how long Loch Lomond really takes as a day trip — and to answer them properly rather than in a sentence.
Since April 2026 we have published 135 guides across fifteen subject areas, from the Subway and ScotRail connections through to whisky tours, the Southside’s food scene and what Glasgow is like with children in tow.
Why a whole site about one city
Glasgow tends to appear as a single paragraph inside somebody’s “Scotland in ten days” article, wedged between Edinburgh Castle and the road north to Skye. That is enough to persuade you to come and nowhere near enough to plan around. It does not tell you that most of the city’s major museums are free, that the Burrell Collection sits inside a country park three miles from the centre, that Celtic Connections fills eighteen days of January, or that the Subway is a single circle and you cannot get lost on it.
We would rather cover one city in depth than forty cities shallowly. Everything on this site is about Glasgow and the places you can reasonably reach from it in a day.
How these guides are put together
Our guides are researched from primary sources: fares and timetables from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and ScotRail, opening hours and admission from Glasgow Life and from each venue’s own website, festival dates from the organisers. Where a figure appears in one of our articles — a Subway fare, a museum’s closing day, the price of a distillery tour — it was taken from the operator’s own published information at the time of writing.
Every article carries the date it was published. That date matters. Glasgow’s transport fares are reviewed annually, restaurants close, and museum hours shift between summer and winter. For anything that costs money or depends on a timetable, treat what you read here as a starting point and confirm it with the operator before you travel.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell inclusion. No restaurant, hotel, tour operator or venue has paid to appear on this site, and none can. There are no sponsored posts.
- We don’t let commission choose the recommendations. Some booking links, mostly for places to stay, are affiliate links, and we earn a commission if you book through one, at no extra cost to you. What we recommend, and what we say about it, is settled before any of that and never changes because of it.
- We are not an official body. Glasgow Tourism Guide has no connection to Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, VisitScotland, SPT, or the People Make Glasgow campaign. We link to them because they are the authoritative source, not because we speak for them.
- We don’t take bookings. We are a publisher, not a travel agency. We cannot reserve a hotel room, a distillery tour or a table for you.
If we’ve got something wrong
A city guide is out of date the moment a venue changes its hours, and we would much rather hear about it than not. If a price, an opening time or a closure is wrong, tell us through the contact page — a link to the page and the specific detail is all we need. Corrections go to the front of the queue and we fix the article rather than quietly deleting the line.
Who publishes this
Glasgow Tourism Guide is independently published, and funded by commission: some booking links, mostly for places to stay, are affiliate links, and if you book through one the booking platform pays a percentage at no extra cost to you. No business can buy a mention, a ranking or a kinder description, and none has. It is a small operation rather than a large editorial team, which is why the guides share a single voice and why a message about a mistake reaches the person who can fix it.
